"Mechano22" - new version of a small 2-way speakers, with linear on-axis and power response characteristics.

Obraz
Not so long ago, I made a small 2-way speaker design with the following goals: f6 around 40Hz with  8 liters BR 45Hz enclosure, generally balanced on-axis response and close to linear frequency power response. Experience gathered with that design led me to a conclusion that maybe it could be done a better and cheaper. And here is the new version, codemame "Mechano22".  It is based on  relatively inexpensive set from Dayton: ND25FW-4 tweeter with waveguide and DSA135-8 midwoofer. The box is really simple: rectangular 18mm birch plywood panels assembled (glued) with overlaps. Box dimensions: HxWxD: 290x174x263mm. The Box is filled with polyester fiber. Pic 1. Box dimensions (mm) The woofer has a flat basket edge, which, according to the manufacturer's note, allows application without flush so it wasn't implemented but there is a chamfer on the inner side of the mounting hole. Pic2. System on-axis and power response characteristics in comparison with target lines. For...

"Mechano", a small 2-way design with frequency power response target (with Satori and Seas drivers)

Obraz
A humble 2way system designed with help of  XMachina.  It's a small bass reflex design. The system was aiming to reach f6 around 40Hz with  8..10 liters BR enclosure. Other goals: generally balanced on-axis response and close to linear frequency power response. General view The drivers: Satori MW13P-4 [ link ] and Seas H1396-4 [ link ]. The enclosure is straight, no roundovers, chamfers or waveguides. External dimensions: 16x29x29cm (8l tuned to c.a.45Hz) . It's made of 18mm birch plywood.  Some reinforcements are applied inside. Crossbar connecting side walls and  stripes of 12mm plywood (5cm wide) are glued along both sides and the upper wall. They are intended to strengthen the "sandwich" structure of the enclosure. The drivers are placed in the middle, with centers at 4cm and 15.5cm from the top edge. The enclosure is filled with polyester fiber. Off-axis measurements were made in 10-degree steps to determine the power resp. A simple rotary table was used fo...

Polar Maps in XMachina

New version of XMachina: 1211210 LINK Polar maps introduction (horizontal and vertical planes). Available from the context menu of "Circuits" node, choose "Show...".  Component symbol modification (for coil and GND).

Frequency power response characteristic calculations improved (several times faster than before). The benefit can be two fold: either leave design time unchanged and get possibly better results or set shorter design time and get similar accuracy but several times faster. Comparing to pure "on-axis" design, the design with "power target" is now only 2-3 times slower. It has to be noted that in case of  "power target" design  several dozen characteristics are being processed, not just a few like in case of  on-axis design. Charts for system off-axis response added:  Right click "Circuits" node then choose "Show.." and "Hor./Vert. off axis sys.resp. [dBspl]": Few more options for managing characteristics in the analyser window: "Remove selected/unselected", "Invert selection", "Show containing...". Note that "Show containing..." sets curve visible if it's label contains specified text,...

New version of XMachina: 1211008  LINK New feature: Power Response target with off axis measurements. It's assumed that some results will be transfered to VituixCad for further analysis and tweaking so the same convention of angle and XYZ position values was used. As the pdf update date remains undefined, here is some information that may help to get started with the feature. Create nodes for off axis measurements under way nodes.  Load off axis frds  The frds can be multi-selected in the open file dialog.  Enter angle identifier and angle multiplier.  The frds should now be loaded and displayed. Note: ON-axis target frds should be loaded into FRD(main) nodes as in previous versions. You can use 0 deg measurements for this, but the delay value based on drivers XYZ and expected listening position should be entered. Fill the "Power response target" settings in the task editor window. These parameters are gathered in a separate group box. The rest of the task edito...

New version of XMachina: 1210624

New version of XMachina: 1210624 LINK Some data structures for axial measurements have been prepared. There is not much that can be done with it in the current version: the measurements can only be loaded and displayed (they are not used for design yet) . Bug fix: the application could't recognize potential profits from inverting speaker polarity and now it's corrected. Some drivers may appear in reverse polarity on the schematic:     Polarity i nverting can be allowed or forbidden depending on the checkbox state: Some labels have been changed for for a clearer description. Bug fix: Charts for curve digitization can be loaded from .bmp files (only pasting from the system clipboard worked so far, and it's still a preferred way as it doesn't depend on picture format). Tab orders have been reorganized (left to right then top to bottom). Existing points can be dragged to desired position during curve editing. The previous method of correcting points has been kept and it ...
